On August 12th, Create Now produced another Power of the Arts Festival at Venice Hope Park, right across from our facility. More than 60 low-income kids of all ages came with their families and chaperones from Whittier, Watts and our DTLA neighborhood (near the Convention Center and STAPLES). They sang, played instruments and danced for an enthusiastic public crowd. The children interacted with Spiderman and Ariel the Mermaid. They loved the drum circle and creating fun arts projects.
Every youth got to select a toy or age-appropriate gift from a large variety of prizes. Disadvantaged families won raffle prizes, such as diapers and new shoes for their kids. Not only did the children enjoy getting to select from a variety of balloon art, but some of the Ballet Folklorico dancers have been hired by our face painting artists to perform at their upcoming wedding! Thanks to all of our volunteers for helping with our event. We couldn’t have done it without you!
